Newport Folk Festival Initial Lineup

Returning to Newport's Fort Adams State Park for its 51st year, the 2010 Newport Folk Festival boasts yet another impressive and diverse lineup. Leading the way this year's festival, which will take place July 30th-August 1st, are The Band's Levon Helm and his Ramble on the Road Band, Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket, and the increasingly popular Avett Brothers.
The Newport Folk Festival is a festival experience like no other. You can't go there expecting to find an intense lot scene or a huge party, but instead it is a really laid back atmosphere. With a mix between dedicated music-buffs and the luxurious Newport folks, the crowd is a mix of all ages and interests, but rarely is there a clash in personalities. When the weather is nice, there are fewer places better to see a concert than Fort Adams State Park, which is surrounded by ocean and provides a pleasant glimpse of the Newport Bridge in the distance. All in all, a very cool experience which has prided itself on past acts which include everyone from the Allman Brothers and Trey Anastasio to Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings Spring Tour

Perhaps the funkiest, most soulful collective in the world right now is Daptone Records. The biggest name off of the label, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, is spearheaded by 53 year-old soul-sister Sharon Jones, who up until finding success with the Dap-Kings just a short time ago, worked as a corrections officer at Rikers Island. Sharon and the Dap-Kings hit it big a few years ago when they released 100 Days, 100 Nights and The Dap-Kings went on tour as Amy Winehouse's backing band. Personally, I think Sharon Jones has 10 times more soul than Winehouse and I am anxious for the release of their upcoming album I Learned The Hard Way on April 6th. In support of their upcoming release, the band will be doing a large spring tour around the United States. I beg you, if you have one ounce of soul in you, get out and see this band live. They are one of the tightest shows on the road these days and they really get a classic soul sound that gets even the biggest stiff in the house moving.

moe. Confirms First Round of Snoe.Down Artists

moe. has confirmed the first four bands to join them March 26th-28th at the Killington Ski Resort for Snoe.Down 2010. Along with multiple moe. sets throughout the weekend, the band has announced sets by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Railroad Earth, Hot Day at the Zoo, and the McLovins. This is a terrific start with four diverse and terrific bands. If you haven't heard of the McLovins, they're a bunch of teenagers from Connecticut who cover Phish compositions and are starting to write their own material too. Check back for more lineup additions.
